Recreation of Canterbury tales Prologue
Allison is a 16 year old girl just starting her junior year of high school. She used to live in a tiny town no one has ever heard of in California in the middle of nowhere and has now moved to a relatively small town outside of Los Angeles, California. Everything and everyone in her new town is different and she is feeling really lost. She misses her best friend Shannon, who is exactly like she is, in every way. They can do anything together and have the most fun doing it. When Allison’s dad got a new job four hours away, Allison and Shannon were both crushed because they knew they wouldn’t be able to see each other very often. Allison is the only child of Meredith and Kenny Clark. She loves her parents dearly but wishes they wouldn’t be so protective  of her and she wishes they would let her be a kid for once instead of always worrying about her making a sports team or getting straight A’s. Allison also wishes she had siblings. She feels like her parents eyes are always watching her, no matter what she does, and she would love if there was someone to share that spotlight with. Shannon is the only sister figure she has ever had and they have been through so much together, it makes her feel sick knowing that she can’t see her every day.
Since transferring schools, she is having a little trouble making friends. At her old school, she was considered a “goody-two-shoes” and a nerd. She wants this year to be a totally new and different year for her, so she has decided to change her “image” completely. One way she is going to start the transition into the cool group is to throw a party. She is inviting all the popular people, starting with the cheerleading team. The popular group of girls in the junior class is led by Natasha, she is the prettiest, sluttiest, most popular girl in the grade and every girl wants to be just like her. Natasha’s two best friends are Kelley and Jenifer. They they wish they could be just like Natasha, so they do everything she tells them to do, says, or does. Kelley is a tall brunette with the prettiest face; she could be a model if she wanted to. She is the unintelligent one of the group, and people often take advantage of her because they know she doesn’t know what is going on half the time. Then there is Jenifer, she is a genius and though she is on the cheerleading team, she spends a lot of her time studying, she is also a beautiful girl and the fact that she is smart makes boys want to date her even more than they would if she wasn’t very smart. There are a few more cheerleaders that are in the popular group, but Natasha, Kelley and Jenifer are the most popular and most well-known of them all. The popular boys are typical football players. Their names are Jeremy, Kyle, Cody, and Blake. Jeremy is the quarterback, so naturally all the girls love him. He is tall, blonde, football player with a surfer look to him. Kyle is the running back of the football team and had been dating Natasha for a year and four months. Cody is a shy, handsome boy who feels like he is always taking the back seat to Jeremy and Kyle. He feels like no one would ever want to be with him because everyone is too busy trying to get with Jeremy, Kyle, or Blake. While it is true that girls are all over the three of them, a good amount of people would love to be with Cody. Allison is one of them but she thinks he could never like her. The truth is Cody likes Allison just as much as she likes him, but neither of them would ever admit it to each other because they have never even met. Blake is not as handsome as Jeremy or Kyle but he is a nice guy with a great sense of humor who is constantly making people laugh.
Allison’s parents have planned to go on a trip to Boston for the weekend to celebrate their anniversary the third weekend of school. Allison sees this as the perfect opportunity for a party so she starts planning it. The one problem is that her mom has arranged for Allison to stay with her aunt Natalie for the whole weekend while they are away. Natalie would never let Allison go anywhere or get away with anything while her parents are away so she knows she has to think of something else. Allison calls her best friend Shannon from back home to try to come up with something  and the girls come up with the plan that Allison will tell her parents that she is staying with her “new friend” Samantha. They think that this is a fool proof plan and when Allison tells her parents she is staying with Samantha; her parents want to call and talk to Samantha’s parents. This scares Allison for a second, but she thinks of a plan quickly and has Shannon talk to her mom on the phone pretending to be Samantha's mom. The plan works perfectly and everything is all set for the weekend.
At school the next day, Allison has to spread the word about her party, so she goes to Kelley, Natasha’s friend, and who sits near her in her math class to tell her about it. The first thing Kelley asks is, “will there be alcohol?” Allison is shocked and panics so she quickly answers, “of course”. Having alcohol at her party is something Allison never thought of before, because she has never been to a party where there has been drinking but she knows that Natasha, her friends, the football team, and any other cool people probably do it all the time so she needs to find a way to get alcohol for her party.  Allison is only 16 and she has no older friends or siblings who could supply it for her. She has to get creative so she goes down to the city to look for someone who will buy it for her. When everyone she asks says no, she doesn’t know what to do or how she can get some. She finally thinks of Shannon's cousin Brody who is 21. She doesn’t know if he will do it for her but she figures it is worth a shot. So she calls Brody and to her surprise, he was okay with buying her alcohol as he remembers when he was 16 and going to parties with underage drinking. So now that she had alcohol and a place to hold the party, she was finally ready to spread the word. The news of the party was buzzing around school and everyone seemed to be really excited for it. Allison was so excited for her first high school party! She cleaned the whole house, bought a new outfit, said goodbye to her parents, and waited for everyone to show up. There were a lot more people that came to the party than Allison had originally thought would come, there were about 70 people in her house, most of whom she had never even seen before. There was music, drinking, dancing, and fun, everything you need for a great party, so Allison thought.
Apparently, at high school parties, people “hooked up” Allison had never been exposed to anything like this before and she didn’t know what to do. During the night, Allison had gotten a bit drunk. She had never drank alcohol before so she didn’t know how getting drunk would feel. Natasha, Kelley and Jenifer were at the party, and so were Cody, Kyle, Jeremy, and Blake. Natasha went up to Allison to tell her how cool the party was. She also wanted to ask her where the nearest bedroom was for her and Kyle to use. Allison was shocked, but she knew that she had to act like she had done this before so as she was getting the guest room ready, she started talking to Natasha. Natasha was asking her uncomfortable questions about her love life and who she had her eye on now. If Allison had been in a better state, she wouldn’t have told her that she liked Cody. Natasha seemed thrilled and promised to set them up right away. Allison probably should have found it strange how willing and excited she was to help but instead she just felt a huge rush of excitement fill her entire body, but she was also extremely nervous and had no idea what she was doing.  Natasha was a little too eager to help Allison get with Cody. She knew what Allison was trying to do and had the perfect plan to stop her.
One thing Allison didn’t know was that Cody is Jenifer’s ex-boyfriend. If Allison wanted to be friends with Natasha, Kelley, and Jenifer, she would never go for Jenifer’s ex-boyfriend, right? So this was the perfect plan to destroy Allison’s hopes of ever being anything besides a nerd.
Natasha went to Cody immediately and told him about Allison, he seemed okay with it, somewhat excited too which was something Allison was not expecting. When they first met and starting talking, it was awkward and they couldn’t seem to find anything to talk about. After they got to know each other a little bit, they started talking about soccer, which was both Allison and Cody’s favorite sport. Cody finally asked Allison if she wanted to go somewhere a little more private to talk, like a bedroom. She immediately felt her stomach drop and she had no idea what to do. She decided to play it cool and say, “Yeah, follow me.” He followed her upstairs to Allison’s room. They sat on her bed and talked for a while and then suddenly, Cody kissed her. She was pretty surprised by it and had never had a real kiss before but she just did what felt natural. When she though he’d stop, he didn’t and she pulled away. When she asked him why he did that he answered, “I’ve been wanting to kiss you since the first time I saw you, Allison.” If she hadn’t liked him so much she would have been scared by this and a little creeped out but she was so caught up in having a cute boy notice her that she didn’t mind. She just leaned in and let him kiss her again.
As Allison and Cody were up in her bedroom, Natasha told Jenifer she heard that someone was hooking up with Cody. Jenifer was heartbroken because she still liked Cody and she said she would “kill this girl”. Natasha and Jenifer stormed into Allison’s bedroom as they were kissing. When Jenifer saw them, she immediately burst into tears and ran out of the room. Natasha simply looked at Allison and said, “Wow, new girl, that was definitely not cool.” Allison couldn’t believe what had just happened and then it suddenly hit her that she had been set up. After Natasha left, the look on her face was so sad and Cody couldn’t figure out why. He told her that it was okay and that Jenifer had just really liked him but she would get over it. She tried to explain to him that she didn’t want Jenifer, Kelley, and Natasha’s first impression of her to be “the one that hooked up with Jenifer’s ex” Cody really just wanted to start making out with her again but he knew that would probably be the wrong thing to do so he just put his arm around her to offer her comfort. She loved that he did this, and suddenly she didn’t care what the girls thought of her because she had a great guy and she knew that those girls would never be her real friends, especially if Natasha was setting her up like that, on the first night they met.
Allison’s parents came home Sunday night and asked her about her weekend. She said she had a great time with her new friend but she missed them. They never found out about the party and Allison was hoping it would stay that way.
At school the next Monday, Cody came up to Allison and asked if he could walk her to class. She agreed and as they were walking, he told her he really liked her and he was wondering if he could have her number, so that they could get to know each other a little bit better. She was thrilled and gave him her number. They started texting and talking on the phone more and more. They also started hanging out, so Allison got to meet his friends and he introduced her to as many girls as he knew. She found some really great friends and when Cody asked her to be his girlfriend, she said yes immediately.
Allison really likes her new life and even though she is not the most popular girl in school, people seem to certainly liker her and she has made many new friends. She misses Shannon terribly but when there are long weekends or breaks in school, they often take trips to see each other. Though she was sad when she first got the news of the move, everything has worked out very well for Allison and she couldn’t be happier with the results.

  2. I can tell their is an underlying theme of friendships and new beginnings. This story reminds me a lot of mean girls, but I really enjoyed reading it.

  3. overall, it was well written, but in the future, don't spell out her story like you did in the first paragraph, show her in a scene which lets the reader figure out things like her having trouble making friends, or missing her old life. good job

  4. I liked reading this story very much and the only fault I found was how you went into far too much detail in the beginning. Great job overall. A-

  6. I agree with Mariah, reminds me of Mean Girls. I personally wouldn't have set up the story like that in the first two paragraphs. Somehow introduce them in a descriptive scene. good job, very realistic -Keeley
